Wonhyo-ro Catholic Church, Seoul
서울 원효로 예수성심성당 · 서울 元曉路 예수聖心聖堂

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krWonhyo-ro Catholic Church was built in 1902, designed and supervised by the French priest Father Coste. Because it was built making use of a hillside, the building is three storeys high at the foot of the slope to the south and two storeys on the convent side. The main entrance is not at the centre but is set off to one side, giving the building an asymmetrical appearance. Inside, the church has a simple form with only an altar and pews, but the pointed-arch windows and the small spire on the roof together give it an overall simplified Gothic-style appearance. As an example of church architecture from the late 19th century, Wonhyo-ro Catholic Church holds very important architectural and historical significance.
