Built along the terrain of a low hill adjoining the Anseongcheon Stream, the Fortress in Dogi-dong, Anseong was found in September 2015 during an excavation ahead of warehouse construction, which revealed a Three Kingdoms-period wooden palisade fortress. This led to its emergency provisional designation as an Important Cultural Heritage property (Historic Site candidate) on 2 December 2015, and it was subsequently designated a Historic Site. Judging from its structure and the artefacts recovered, it was built by Baekje between the 4th and 6th centuries, and is presumed to have been used by Goguryeo after Baekje moved its capital to Ungjin. As this is the first confirmed case of a wooden palisade fortress used by Goguryeo in the southern Gyeonggi region, it can be considered together with existing Goguryeo-related sites — Daemosanseong Fortress in Jincheon (Chungcheongbuk-do Monument) and Namseonggolsanseong Fortress in Bugang, Sejong (Sejong Monument) — to examine Goguryeo's territorial expansion and southward routes south of the Hangang River, giving the site high historical and academic value. It is also a rare case in which the wooden palisade structure survives well, making it possible to understand the structure of Three Kingdoms-period wooden stockades, and it is noted as important material for the study of ancient fortresses. The excavation also yielded, besides the palisade fortress itself, pottery from Baekje's Hanseong capital period, including three-legged vessels (samjokgi), stemmed dishes (gobae), and steamers (siru), as well as Goguryeo pottery such as lids, jars with handles (pasubu-ho), short-necked jars (dangyeong-ho), and bowls (wan), together with cup-shaped Gaya-style pottery.
