Anheungjinseong Fortress in Taean is a stone-built mountain fortress with a circumference of 1,714 m, the largest fortress distributed across the Taean region. Its initial construction date can be estimated from gakjaseongseok, stones inscribed with the date of construction, and because the yeojang, the parapet atop the main wall, survives, the scale of the fortress at the time of its construction can be determined. As a coastal defence site situated on the west coast, its well-preserved remains make it possible to understand the structure of the fortress wall and its construction methods, giving it outstanding historical and academic value.
