Haegeumgang Islets, Geoje
거제 해금강 · 巨濟 海金剛

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThe name of Geoje Haegeumgang derives from its resemblance to Haegeumgang on Geumgangsan Mountain, so beautiful that it is also called "the second Haegeumgang"; it is the finest scenic spot on Geojedo Island. Haegeumgang consists of two large rocky islets known as "Galdo" standing side by side, their sheer, cliff-cut scenery extraordinarily beautiful. Features such as the Sipja (Cross-shaped) Cave, Seokmun (Stone Gate), Satonggul (Four-way Cave), Irwolbong Peak, Mireuk Rock and Saja (Lion) Rock combine to create scenery of unsurpassed beauty. From here to Chungmu the entire area lies within Hallyeohaesang National Park. To the east of the island is Okpo Bay, well known for the naval Battle of Okpo during the Japanese invasions of 1592, and to the west it faces Hansando Island, stirring a sense of history.
