Gugyedeung Pebble Beach in Jeongdo-ri, Wando
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

Located a short distance south of the centre of Wando-eup, the origin of the name Gugyedeung is not clearly known, but the pebble field exposed by the waves forms a number of layers on the surface. Gugyedeung consists of five types of round, beautiful beach stones shaped and polished by the rough waves of the South Sea, spread widely along the coastline in the shape of a bow. On the land slopes along the coastline there is also a naturally formed and preserved windbreak forest, where some 20 species of trees — including evergreens that stay green through all four seasons, maple and zelkova — blend harmoniously with the pebble field to create the beautiful atmosphere of a southern coastal beach.
