Tangeumdae Height, Chungju, takes its name from the tradition that Ureuk, one of Korea's three great musical sages, played the gayageum, a Gaya-style twelve-string zither, at this site. It is also a place of great historical value as the spot where General Sin Rip drowned himself after being defeated by Konishi Yukinaga during the Imjin War. The Namhan River winds along the cliffs here, and dense pine forests cover the surroundings, making for beautiful scenery; the view from the height takes in the Namhan River, Gyemyeongsan Mountain, Namsan Mountain, the city of Chungju and broad plains spread out like a picture, forming a superb landscape.
