"Seongmun Natural Arch, Danyang" is a natural heritage feature formed by limestone karst topography. It is thought to have formed when a limestone cave collapsed, leaving part of the cave ceiling standing like a cloud bridge. The arch itself is unusual and beautiful in form, and the view through it of the Namhan River and the farmhouses on the far bank is as striking as looking through a photograph frame. Seongmun is known as the largest of its kind among cloud-bridge-shaped rock pillar landscapes in East Asia, and it clearly demonstrates the characteristics of limestone karst topography, giving it great academic value as well. It is also a rare and beautiful scenic spot, associated with the legend of Mago Halmi, a giant grandmother goddess of Korean folklore said to have lived inside the arch.
