Sainam Rock, Danyang, is a broad, screen-like rock beside the Namjocheon Stream (also known as the Ungyecheon Stream), rising as a sheer, dignified cliff face; its scenery is so unusual and beautiful that Kim Jeong-hui (pen name Chusa) praised it as looking like a painting sent down from heaven. According to tradition, U Tak (pen name Yeokdong), a Goryeo-period scholar deeply versed in the classics and divination, stayed at this spot while holding the fourth-rank post of sain, and it is said that Im Jae-gwang, magistrate of Danyang during the reign of King Seongjong of Joseon, therefore named the rock Sainam after this post; writings by U Tak remain inscribed on the rock face.
