Oksunbong Peaks, Jecheon, are said to be named for the sight, after rain clears, of several white and blue peaks rising up sharply like bamboo shoots breaking through the ground; as the name suggests, the peaks rising above the Namhan River are highly unusual and beautiful. Oksunbong originally belonged to Jecheon (then called Cheongpung), and the story of how it came to be included among the Eight Views of Danyang is that, during the reign of King Myeongjong of Joseon, Yi Hwang, then magistrate of Danyang, asked the magistrate of Cheongpung to have Oksunbong transferred to Danyang's jurisdiction; when this was refused, he carved the characters 丹丘洞門 ("Gateway to Danyang") into the rock face of Oksunbong and so fixed the site as Danyang's gateway. Together with the nearby Gudambong, it is a scenic spot celebrated in numerous poems by scholars and men of letters.
