Gyerimnyeong is recorded in the Samguk sagi as having been opened as a road in the third year of King Adalla of Silla (156), and it is an old road of long history that carries the memory of territorial conflict between Goguryeo and Baekje. "Haneuljae" is the name of the pass along Gyerimnyeong that crosses from the old temple site at Mireuk-ri to Mungyeong. The small valley formed along the old road, together with the beautiful natural scenery of Woraksan Mountain spreading around it, adds to the atmosphere of the old road, making this a site of great historical and scenic value.
