Cheongnyeongpo Meandering Stream, Yeongwol
영월 청령포 · 寧越 淸泠浦

Cheongnyeongpo in Yeongwol was the place of exile for King Danjong, who was deposed from the throne by King Sejo while still young. To its west rise the precipitous rock cliffs of Yugyukbong, and with three sides enclosed by a river it forms a shape like an island. It is a site steeped in history, retaining sorrowful traces such as Nosandae, where he is said to have gazed towards Hanyang lost in grief, and the stone cairn of Manghyangtap. The Natural Monument pine tree "Gwaneumsong", together with the large old pine forest formed around the site of King Danjong's residence, harmonises beautifully with the Seogang River that curves around it through 270 degrees, making this a site of outstanding natural beauty.
