Suseungdae is a granite rock formation at the centre of Wonhakdong Valley, one of the "Anui Samdong" (Three Valleys of Anui) that Joseon-era scholars regarded as the finest scenic valleys in the Yeongnam region. Together with the deep, long valley and the surrounding woodland, it forms an outstanding natural landscape. Concerning the name "Suseungdae", a poem renaming the site by Yi Hwang (pen name Toegye) and a response poem by Im Hun (pen name Galcheon) have both been passed down. Yosujeong Pavilion and Gwansu-ru Pavilion, which stand on either side of Suseungdae, are also well preserved. Suseungdae is a scenic spot of great symbolic significance, combining the tradition among Joseon-era Confucian scholars of touring famous mountains and rivers with their ideal of delighting in mountains and streams.
