Sigyeongjeong Pavilion and Surroundings, Damyang
담양 식영정 일원 · 潭陽 息影亭 一圓

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krSigyeongjeong is a pavilion built in the 15th year of King Myeongjong's reign of Joseon (1560) by Kim Seong-won (pen name Seohadang, 1525–1597), with the name "Sigyeong" ("resting from shadows") given by his father-in-law Im Eok-ryeong (pen name Seokcheon, 1496–1568). Here Jeong Cheol (pen name Song-gang, 1536–1593) composed Seongsan byeolgok and the twenty poems on Sigyeongjeong, along with other Chinese-style poems, gasa and danga, making this the birthplace of Song-gang's literature and a place of historical and cultural value that helped lay the foundation for the development of Korea's classical literature. Sigyeongjeong is a beautiful scenic site where the surrounding Mudeungsan Mountain and Gwangjuho Lake create an outstanding harmony with the natural environment, further enhanced by the old pine trees, pine groves and crape myrtles nearby.
