Cheongpyeongsa Temple is where Yi Ja-hyeon rebuilt Munsuwon in the sixth year of King Seonjong of Goryeo, expanding it into a Seon meditation garden that shapes natural and man-made features in harmony by making use of the local topography. It contains many remains and relics, including Hoejeonmun Gate (Treasure) and the Cheongpyeongsa Temple Site (Monument of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province). The site has outstanding mountain-and-water scenery: within a cosy basin, valleys, a yeongji (reflection pond), pools, broad flat rocks, curiously shaped rocks and waterfalls come together in spectacular views, preserving natural scenery of exceptional, heaven-given beauty.
