Yongamjeong Pavilion and Surroundings, Geochang
거창 용암정 일원 · 居昌 龍巖亭 一圓

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krYongamjeong Pavilion was built in 1801, the first year of King Sunjo, by Im Seok-hyeong (pen name Yongam, 1751–1816) atop the rock where he had once wandered with his grandfather and father; it was restored in 1864, the first year of Emperor Gojong, by his great-grandson Im Su-hak. Along Wicheon Stream, which corresponds to today's Wolseong Valley, uniquely shaped rocks serve as garden features, bringing together the fine scenery of the surrounding area into a single scenic site. Im Seok-hyeong's poem "Yongam Palgyeong" (Eight Views of Yongam), which celebrates this landscape, survives, describing: the bright moon over Seongnyeong Ridge, the clear breeze of Geumwonsan Mountain, night rain on the Wicheon Stream, the evening mist over Nongsan, the dawn haze on Deogyusan Mountain, drifting clouds over Jongsan, the old pine at Seongmun, and the morning sun over Hwanggang. Yi Hwi-jun (1806–1867) named Yongamjeong Pavilion and its surroundings, together with Suseungdae, among the most outstanding scenic spots of Wonhakdong within Anuisamdong, the three valleys of Anui.
