Bird Tracksite in the Haman Formation in Yongsan-ri, Haman
함안 용산리 백악기 새발자국 화석산지 · 咸安 龍山里 白堊紀 새발자국 化石産地

The Cretaceous bird tracksite in Yongsan-ri, Haman is located in Yongsan-ri, Chilwon-myeon, Haman-gun, about 12 km north of Masan, and the tracks were found in the upper part of the Haman Formation, dating to the Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic era. At the site where the bird track fossils were found there are tracks assigned to Koreanaornis hamanensis (known in Korean as the 'Haman Korean bird'), together with Jindong bird tracks and the footprint fossils of herbivorous dinosaurs. Most of the tracks belong to Koreanaornis hamanensis, while Jindong bird tracks and dinosaur tracks were found only exceptionally. The Cretaceous period was a time when dinosaurs flourished greatly, so many dinosaur footprint fossils have been found, but cases in which bird track fossils are found are very rare. The Cretaceous bird tracksite in Yongsan-ri, Haman was the second such site in the world to be studied and published, and it holds great value not only for the rarity of its bird track fossils but also as material for geological and biological natural history research. Note: the site's designated name was changed from 'Bird Track Fossil Site in the Haman Formation, Yongsan-ri, Haman' to 'Bird Tracksite in the Haman Formation in Yongsan-ri, Haman' by notification on 26 July 2021.
