이천 신대리 백송 · 利川 新垈里 白松

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThe lacebark pine sheds its bark in broad flakes, revealing a white surface beneath, and so is also called baekgolsong (white-boned pine) in Korean. It is native to China and was brought and planted by envoys who travelled to and from China during the Joseon dynasty. The lacebark pine of Sindae-ri, Icheon is about 230 years old and forks into two branches at a height of about 1m. The tree stands 10.2m tall, with a trunk circumference at chest height of 2.0m and 2.1m for the two branches. It stands on a low hill about 1km from the village, and has a fine form. It is said to have been planted over 200 years ago, during the Joseon dynasty, at the grave of Min Dal-yong, grandfather of Min Jeong-sik, who served as Governor of Jeolla-do. The lacebark pine of Sindae-ri, Icheon is a rare pine not often seen elsewhere, and is of great historical value as evidence of exchange with China. It is therefore designated and protected as a natural monument.
