Gosudonggul Cave, Danyang, lies along the Geumgokcheon Stream in Danyang-eup, on the shore of Lake Chungju, upstream on the Namhan River. It is 1,395m long in total, but only a 940m section is currently open to the public as a tourist route; the remaining inner section is closed off to preserve the cave environment. Inside the cave are the Lion Rock, regarded as the guardian of the cave, along with stalactites forming a grand waterfall, a water pool known as Seonnyetang (Fairy Pool), a 7m icicle-shaped stalactite, stalagmites rising from the floor, and stone pillars formed where stalactites and stalagmites have met. There are also many rare formations, including naturally formed rock bridges, curved rocks, flower-shaped rocks, cave coral and cave pearls. Gosudonggul Cave, Danyang, is a limestone cave formed within Paleozoic limestone strata, and is of great academic value.
