Ondaldonggul Cave takes its name from Ondalsanseong Fortress above it, said to have been built long ago by General Ondal. The cave is 700 metres long in total and formed of pale grey limestone. Its entrance lies at an altitude of about 160 metres, some 10 metres above the water level of the Namhangang River, and it can be flooded during the rainy season. Inside this gorge-shaped cave, speleothems such as stalactites, stalagmites and columns have developed along fault planes and joint planes. In the entry on historic sites of Yeongchun-hyeon, North Chungcheong Province, in Volume 14 of the Sin dongguk yeoji seungnam, the cave is recorded, together with a description of its interior, as a "stone cave." Ondaldonggul Cave has beautiful topographical scenery and great value as material for geological research.
