Nodongdonggul Cave, Danyang, lies near the Nodongcheon Stream, where a branch of the Namhan River flows north into Lake Chungju; the cave is about 800m long in total. It is formed of limestone, and its interior has steep gradients. Cave formations are well developed throughout, including icicle-shaped stalactites, stalagmites rising from the floor, and stone pillars formed where stalactites and stalagmites have met. Beneath a vertical wall partway through the cave, scattered pottery fragments remain, said to be traces of villagers who took refuge here during the Japanese invasion of 1592. Nodongdonggul Cave has developed a variety of internal landforms, and its well-developed secondary formations, such as stalactite waterfalls, stone pillars and stalagmites, give it great value as material for geological research, as well as a beautiful cave landscape.
