Population of Fortunes Creeping Spindles in Maisan Mountain, Jinan
진안 마이산 줄사철나무군락 · 鎭安 馬耳山 줄사철나무 群落

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krFortune's Creeping Spindle is a climbing plant of the staff-vine family; roots growing from its stems cling to trees or rocks, allowing it to climb. Its flowers bloom pale green in May and June, and its fruit ripens pale pink in October. Because its leaves stay green throughout all four seasons, it stands out strikingly against the bare winter landscape once other trees have shed their leaves. The population on Maisan Mountain grows on a slope within the grounds of Eunsusa Temple, where fully grown plants and young seedlings are found together. This is the northern limit on Korea's mainland for the species' growth, and because the plants grow here in a dense stand, it is valuable ecological material; it is accordingly designated and protected as a Natural Monument.
