The Dinosaur and Bird Track Fossil Site in Deongmyeong-ri, Goseong is a Cretaceous-period dinosaur footprint fossil site ranked among the world's foremost in both quantity and diversity, and it is the largest Mesozoic bird-track fossil site in the world. The site displays a variety of sedimentary structures and yields abundant traces of life from 120 million years ago, making it an academically valuable fossil ground from which the behaviour of dinosaurs, the natural and depositional environment, the distribution of land and sea, and the evolutionary process of birds can be understood. The site is also notable for its outstanding coastal scenery, with strangely shaped rocks and stones and sea caves carved out by the waves. A legend is told of a rock here called Sangjokam: the Jade Emperor, who loved wearing fine new clothes, was one day so struck by the spectacular scenery of Sangjokam that he sent down celestial maidens together with a loom, saying that cloth woven there would make excellent garments; the maidens wove tirelessly and presented the Jade Emperor with a robe of gold. The site is designated and preserved as a natural monument not only for its traces of past life but also for its outstanding scenery and great value. (Note: the name was changed from "Dinosaur and Bird Footprint Fossil Site in Deongmyeong-ri, Goseong" to "Dinosaur and Bird Track Fossil Site in Deongmyeong-ri, Goseong", announced 26 July 2021.)
