Dinosaur Egg Site in Bibong-ri, Boseong
보성 비봉리 공룡알 화석산지 · 寶城 飛鳳里 恐龍알 化石産地

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThe Dinosaur Egg Site in Bibong-ri, Boseong is a Cretaceous sedimentary layer in which numerous dinosaur egg fossils appear in the form of nests, extending for about 3 km along the Seonso coast of Bibong-ri. Around ten egg nests and some 100 egg fossils can be observed in the bedrock along the shore. The largest of the nests is 1.5 m in diameter; the egg fossils measure 9-15 cm across, and the eggshells are 1.5-2.5 mm thick. No dinosaur embryos or embryonic skeletal structures have been found inside the eggs, suggesting that they became fossilised only after hatching. The site is designated and protected as a natural monument not only as evidence of a dinosaur habitat but also as important material for clarifying which dinosaurs lived there and how, and because further egg fossils and other palaeontological material are likely to remain buried there. (Note: the name was changed from "Dinosaur Egg Fossil Site in Bibong-ri, Boseong" to "Dinosaur Egg Site in Bibong-ri, Boseong", announced 26 July 2021.)
