Yongcheondonggul Lava Tube, Jeju
제주 용천동굴 · 濟州 龍泉洞窟

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krYongcheondonggul is a large lava tube (about 2,470.8 m in total length) that displays the most typical form of Jeju Island's lava tubes, with well-developed micro-landforms and formations including a lava roll about 140 m long, along with lava terraces, lava shelves and lava falls. It is a remarkable lava tube in which a wide variety of carbonate formations — soda-straw stalactites, stalactites, columns, flat-topped stalagmites, cave coral and cave pearls — have developed together with a large cave lake, giving it very great academic and scenic value. In addition, a wide range of material carried in from outside the cave, including pottery, animal bones, ironware and charcoal, is widely distributed within it, adding further to the cave's value. Yongcheondonggul is currently designated a restricted-access area to protect its cave formations; entry for management or academic purposes requires the permission of the Administrator of the Korea Heritage Service.
