The Pinewoods of Mansongjeong Pavilion stand on a broad sand deposit formed where the Nakdonggang River curves around Hahoe Village. During the reign of King Seonjo of Joseon, Ryu Un-yong (posthumous title Mungyeong-gong) planted ten thousand pine trees here to soften the gi, or vital energy, of Buyongdae Cliff facing the village. The Pinewoods of Mansongjeong Pavilion in Hahoe Village, Andong, form a village grove of outstanding scenery in harmony with Hahoe Village, the sandy riverbank, the Nakdonggang River and Buyongdae Cliff. For its great scenic, historical and cultural value, it is designated and protected as a Natural Monument.
