Ripple marks, raindrop imprints, dinosaur footprint fossils and sedimentary bedding formed during the Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic era are found throughout the grounds of Gyeseungsa Temple. Various types of ripple marks occur here, the largest measuring 13.5 m by 7 m and remarkably well preserved. Also found in variety are raindrop imprints of typical form, sedimentary bedding structures, and dinosaur footprint fossils presumed to belong to sauropods (four-legged herbivores) and theropods (two-legged carnivores). Together these are valued as important academic and research material for interpreting the ancient environment.
