Fossil Site on Jangguseom Island in Jungpyeong-ri, Hadong
하동 중평리 장구섬 백악기 화석산지 · 河東 仲坪里 장구섬 白堊紀 化石産地

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krJangguseom, an uninhabited island, is a fossil site of great academic value. It yields large quantities of well-preserved Mesozoic Cretaceous bivalve fossils (including trigonia-type clams and Nakdong stream clams) and footprint fossils of ornithopod dinosaurs, as well as a wide range of other fossils, including a crocodile skull, the tooth of a duck-billed dinosaur, a turtle plastron, and trace fossils left by various invertebrates. In particular, the duck-billed dinosaur tooth found here is the first tooth fossil of a herbivorous ornithopod dinosaur discovered in Korea, and the skull of the primitive crocodile is regarded as the most completely preserved skull among all terrestrial vertebrate fossils found in Korea to date, making it a valuable resource for natural history. Note: The site's designation name was changed from "Fossil Site on Jangguseom Island in Jungpyeong-ri, Hadong" to "Cretaceous Fossil Site on Jangguseom Island in Jungpyeong-ri, Hadong" (announced 26 July 2021).
