Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThe Dinosaur Tracksite in Seoyu-ri, Hwasun was formed in strata from the Late Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic era, approximately 90 million years ago. It is characterised by long trackways of carnivorous dinosaurs (theropods) concentrated intensively within a single area, including about 60 footprints forming trackways up to 52m long. It is a highly distinctive site where more than about 1,500 footprints have been found in total, comprising a mixture of large and medium-sized carnivorous dinosaur tracks together with herbivorous dinosaur (sauropod and ornithopod) tracks. It is also a fossil site of high academic value where petrified wood and plant fossils, various types of trace fossils, desiccation cracks formed by drying ground, ripple marks and other sedimentary structures occur on a large scale, and where horizontal sedimentary bedding is very well developed.
