The Korean plum-yew is an evergreen, needle-leaved small tree of the plum-yew family that usually grows to less than 3 m in height. This specimen, standing at the jaesil (a ritual preparation hall) of Yungneung Royal Tomb, reaches a height of 3.5 m, with its trunk dividing into several branches at the root, and a girth at breast height of about 29–56 cm. It has been identified as the largest Korean plum-yew in the country and is presumed to have been planted when the jaesil of Yungneung Royal Tomb was built. The Korean plum-yew of Yungneung Royal Tomb, Hwaseong is in excellent condition and has value as representative of Korea's Korean plum-yews, and because of its great historical and cultural value in connection with the jaesil of Yungneung Royal Tomb, it has been designated and protected as a natural monument. * Yungneung Royal Tomb (隆陵): the joint tomb of the posthumously honoured Emperor Jangjo (Crown Prince Sado) and Empress Heongyeong (Lady Hyegyeong) of the Hong clan (Historic Site).
