포항 뇌성산 뇌록산지 · 浦項 磊城山 磊綠産地

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krNoerok is a type of mineral resource formed by geological processes. It is green in colour and can easily be ground into powder, making it a traditional natural pigment used since the Joseon period for dancheong, the coloured decorative painting applied to traditional buildings. Noeseongsan Mountain in Jangi-myeon, Pohang, is the only place in South Korea where Noerok occurs. It has great geological value, offering useful clues for understanding the evolution of the Korean Peninsula's crust, and great historical and cultural value as the source of the traditional pigment used in the dancheong of major state facilities of the Joseon period, such as palaces, shrines and the gate towers of fortress walls.
