군산 산북동 공룡발자국과 익룡발자국 화석산지 · 群山 山北洞 恐龍발자국과 翼龍발자국 化石産地

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is the first fossil site in the North Jeolla region where dinosaur and pterosaur footprint fossils have been found together, giving it great academic value for research into the palaeobiogeography and palaeoenvironment of the dinosaur age on the Korean Peninsula. The footprint fossils are diverse and densely distributed, and include a large, exceptionally well-preserved theropod trackway — very rarely found in Korea — as well as the largest known footprint fossils in Korea of a herbivorous dinosaur (Caririchnium). These make the site valuable academic material for understanding the behaviour and palaeoecological environment of dinosaurs during the Cretaceous period. The site's official designation name was changed, by notice of 26 July 2021, from 'Tracksite of Dinosaur and Pterosaur Footprint Fossils in Sanbuk-dong, Gunsan' to its current name, Tracksite of Dinosaurs and Pterosaurs in Sanbuk-dong, Gunsan.
