Changnyeong Sangmusa is the name given to a branch of the Joseon peddlers' organisation that operated around Changnyeong Market in South Gyeongsang Province. Changnyeong was a key point where goods from Gimhae, Busan, Goryeong, Sangju, Indong, Sancheong, Hapcheon and Geochang were gathered, both through numerous ferry crossings such as Myeolpo-naru, Iimok-naru, Banpo-naru, Sulteo-naru and Usan-naru, and via overland routes from various regions. Changnyeong Market flourished greatly, and this became the background for the organisation of the Changnyeong Sangmusa. In the Changnyeong Sangmusa, the busang, pack peddlers who carried goods on their backs, concentrated on itinerant trading, while the usang, right-division merchants, set up fixed shops in established locations to sell their goods. In the Changnyeong region the left and right divisions were at first kept separate, but at one point they were merged, which strengthened the organisation. The types of goods actually traded by the two divisions here are recorded at the end of their held copy of the Daedong Sangmuguk Jangjeong (大同商務局章程, Regulations of the Daedong Commerce Bureau), and from this it can be seen that the roles of the two divisions were strictly separated.
