Yangdong is a clan village of the Wolseong Son and Yeogang Yi families, which has preserved many houses of long tradition well on the broad Angang Plain. This pavilion was built by the Yeogang Yi clan, first constructed around 1560, the fifteenth year of King Myeongjong. During the reign of King Cheoljong the servants' quarters was removed, and the building later burned down entirely; it was rebuilt in 1917, restoring its original form. The building is composed broadly of the pavilion itself, enclosed within its own separate wall, and a servants' quarters standing outside that wall. The pavilion has an L-shaped plan, with a daecheong set at the bend. Rooms are placed on either side of the daecheong, and the room on the left contains a numaru, a raised, open wooden-floored room. From the railed numaru one can look out over the northern village area where Hyangdan House, a Treasure, stands, giving the pavilion an unrivalled sense of charm. The servants' quarters likewise has an L-shaped plan, and consists, one bay each, of a room, a wooden floor, a room, a kitchen and a storeroom, in that order. The largest pavilion in the village, it presents an especially grand view when looked up at from the village below in summer, and with its servants' quarters preserving the elegance of former times and its finely finished construction, it is valuable material for study. This heritage site is generally open to visitors, but access may be restricted due to the personal circumstances of the owner or other private matters.
