Yangdong Village is a clan village of the Wolseong Son and Yeogang Yi families, where many houses of long tradition are well preserved on the broad Angang plain. This building belongs to the Son clan and, together with Ganghakdang, the Yi clan's seodang (village school), a national folklore heritage, forms a matching pair of schools in this village. It is said to have been built around 1776, the fifty-second year of King Yeongjo, and stands on a hillside to the east of the village entrance. It has a ㅡ-shaped plan of five bays across the front and two bays to the side, with a toenmaru veranda at the front. The roof is a matbae, gabled roof, shaped like the character 人 when seen from the side. In terms of room arrangement, the three central front bays form a daecheong, a wooden-floored hall, with rooms at either end. Behind the room on the right is a kitchen, and behind the daecheong is a further wooden floor. On the front of the daecheong hangs a plaque reading 'Allakjeong', and on the rear a plaque reading 'Seongsanjae'. Built simply and plainly, this Joseon-period building, together with Ganghakdang, is an important piece of folklore material in Yangdong Village. ※ This heritage site is generally open to visitors, but access may be restricted at certain times for reasons particular to the owner.
