House with Wooden-floored Room in Naganeupseong Walled Town, Suncheon
KOGL Type 4Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

This thatched house stands along the main road running east–west through Naganseong. Set on a level, spacious plot, the house has its main house placed deep within after passing through the gate, with a toilet immediately west of the gate. The main house is arranged from west to east as kitchen, main room, wooden-floored hall and small room, with an earthen wall built between the kitchen and the main room. Roughly midway stands the spot where the kitchen god, Jowangsin, was once enshrined, along with a shelf where a pine-resin torch was once lit. Small vent windows in the upper part of the front wall let in light, making the kitchen relatively bright. The main room has a window set at the eye level of someone sitting down, providing light and ventilation as well as a view outside. The wooden-floored hall was made narrow in order to make the small room larger. In front of the small room an L-shaped stone wall was built, and the earthen-floored area inside it is used as a shed. The terrace of earthenware jars is neatly arranged against a wall in front of the kitchen. With its distinctive floor plan and certain unusual features in parts of its structure, this house provides valuable material for research. This heritage site is usually open to the public, but viewing may be restricted for private reasons at the discretion of the owner.
