This house stands to the west of Yi Jin-rae's House, Boseong, a National Folklore Heritage; following the western wall inward, a small thatched gate appears, and to its west, amid a bamboo grove, stands a modest men's quarters (sarangchae). To the west of its yard is the servants' quarters (haengnangchae); behind the sarangchae is the main hall (anchae); and to the west of the inner yard is the storehouse (gotganchae). With the storehouse backing onto the east side, only a jar terrace for sauce jars was placed there. Surviving records show that it was built in 1891, though the individual buildings appear to have been constructed at different times. The main hall, men's quarters and storehouse are arranged in a 'ㄷ'-shape. The main hall is thatched; from the west there is a narrow veranda (toenmaru), beside which is a small room at the front and a back room to the rear. Next to these are a daecheong and a large room, with a firebox (agungi) below at the back of the room and an attic above. In front of the daecheong and the large room is a toenmaru, and at the very end are rooms built later, one above the other. The sarangchae follows the southern style, with rooms in the middle and the daecheong at the end; from the west there are a kitchen, a lower men's room, an upper room, and the daecheong, with a kitchen room in front of the kitchen and an open daecheong. The storehouse is a large and imposing building and appears to be older than the main hall; from the south, three bays are storage space, and the topmost bay has a wooden floor, which probably served the function of a daecheong. The gate passage has a thatched roof, and in recent times a toilet was added outside, making it L-shaped ('ㄱ'-shaped); the gate passage is on the west and the toilet on the east. The servants' quarters stands in front of the sarangchae and is presumed to have been the house of the servants who managed the household; to the north are a kitchen, a large room and a small room, and unusually, the portable bench floor (deulmaru) in the centre and the raised gate are made of bamboo. A bamboo grove grows thick around the house, giving it a secluded, tranquil feel even though there are no particular garden trees within the compound. This heritage site is generally open to visitors, but access may be restricted due to the personal circumstances of the owner or others.
