Set deep in a village surrounded by beautiful natural scenery and bamboo groves, this house was built in the early 1900s for the village's landlord. The main hall was built in 1908, and the men's quarters is thought to date from the same time, while the storehouse hall was built somewhat later; the outer gate hall and the shed are more recent still. The main hall stands at the innermost point of the compound, with the men's quarters facing it. Set at an angle opposite the inner courtyard is the outer gate, with a shed to its east. In the outer yard is a bamboo gate leading to the men's quarters, and a wall separates the men's-quarters yard from the outer gate. The main hall is U-shaped, with wings enclosing the rear — a distinctive arrangement found only in the southern coastal region. From the west, front and back, are a kitchen room and the kitchen, and the rear wing holds a back room. East of the kitchen are the large room, a two-bay daecheong (wooden-floored hall) and a small room. The two-bay daecheong is divided by a door fitted in the centre, the rear part being called the 'inner daecheong' and the front the 'outer daecheong'; unusually, the outer daecheong is left open at the front while the inner daecheong is closed off. This division is thought to represent a more developed form of daecheong use among the wealthy farming families of the region. The men's quarters follows the typical southern-style layout, with the daecheong placed to one side. From the west are the daecheong, the upper sarang room and the lower sarang room; at the rear, beside the lower room is a small side room, and beside the upper room is a two-tiered storage room for keeping belongings. Doors are fitted between the daecheong and the rooms, making the layout more closed than is typical in the central region; to the east of the lower room is a gate hall that doubled as a kitchen, though it is no longer used as such. In the storehouse hall the northernmost bay is partitioned off separately, with the rest left open to each other; the outer gate hall has the gate itself in the centre, a gatekeeper's room to the west and a shed to the east. Notably, the pigsty built to the east of the inner courtyard, although not old in construction date, follows traditional methods in its structural technique. The surrounding bamboo grove lends the house a secluded atmosphere, and the garden features in front of the men's quarters and the layered space at the rear are also appealing. This heritage site is generally open to the public, but access may be restricted for personal reasons at the discretion of the owner.
