It is presumed to have been built by Yi Mun-han, a descendant of Yi Ung who moved down to Pungsan in opposition to Yi Seong-gye's dynastic revolution, and who himself lived during the reign of King Sukjong. The house was named "Ilseongdang" (日省堂), meaning "to reflect on oneself day by day," because a reading room was set up in the outer quarters and a plaque bearing this meaning was hung there. Built on relatively high ground against a backdrop of a hill thick with oak forest, it is a square (ㅁ-shaped) house that represents a typical style of traditional Joseon-period folk houses. The house combines the women's quarters (anchae) and the men's quarters (sarangchae) into a single unit. In the anchae, the main room and a wooden-floored hall (maru) occupy the centre, with a small side room to the rear left and a kitchen adjoining the main room; in front of these are a storeroom and a cattle shed, and to the right of the hall are two rooms. The sarang section is set diagonally to the anchae in an L-shape (ㄴ-shape): centred on an open hall at the corner, it has two sarang rooms to the left and a wooden-floored room behind the hall. A notable feature is the way the small side room gives access to the attic above the main room and kitchen, together with the unusual layout of the sarang hall and its wooden-floored room, both of which call for further detailed investigation. Note: This heritage site is generally open to the public for viewing, but access may be restricted due to the owner's personal circumstances.
