This annex building (byeoldang) is said to have been built by the civil official Kim Bu-pil, known by his pen name Hujodang (1516–1577), who served during the reign of King Seonjo of Joseon. It originally stood in Ocheon-dong, Yean-myeon, but was moved to its present site in 1974 owing to the construction of Andong Dam. It is an annex attached to the head house of the Yean branch of the Gwangsan Kim clan, a head house made up of an annex, a main hall (jeongchim), a shrine, a memorial hall (jaesa) and storehouses. Originally attached to the main hall, it has a hipped-and-gabled (paljak) roof whose sides form the shape of the character '八' (eight). It is a large annex, laid out as a straight ('一'-shaped) row of four kan across the front and two kan along the side, with a further two-kan wooden floor and room added on the right to form an 'L' ('ㄱ'-shaped) plan. It stands within the wall to the left of the main hall, fitted with a side gate and a main gate leading to the main hall, and, to the left, a spirit gate (sinmun) leading to the shrine. The nameboard reading 'Hujodang' is in the calligraphy of his teacher, Toegye Yi Hwang. In the ceiling of the great hall (daecheong) were found rare documents, including old books and collected writings, household registers from the late Goryeo period, and Joseon-period household registers, royal appointment certificates, land deeds, slave registers and various letters.
