Baegilheon Head House, Nonsan
논산 백일헌 종택 · 論山 白日軒 宗宅

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis house was built with funds granted by King Yeongjo to Yi Sam, whose pen name was Baegilheon, in recognition of his merit in suppressing the Yi In-jwa Rebellion of 1728. A native of South Chungcheong Province, Baegilheon was a figure who made his mark on the Joseon period through extraordinary physical strength and exceptional strategic ability. Built on a naturally sloping site, the house has a gate quarters facing east; entering through it, one finds the inner quarters and the men's quarters — the constituent elements of an upper-class Joseon house — arranged in a square,口-shaped plan facing south. The shrine stands on higher ground to the east of the main building. This house preserves and hands down, in clearly organised form, historical records such as the books and old documents of General Yi Sam, who represents the martial lineages of the Chungcheong region, together with the cultural-historical characteristics of its varied collection of relics. This heritage site is generally open to visitors, but viewing may be restricted owing to the personal circumstances of the owner or others.
