This is the old family house that produced independence activists across three generations, including Yi Man-do (1842–1910), whose pen name was Hyangsan, and it has been designated a "Three-Generation Independence Movement Family" house; it preserves the regional symbolic significance and historical importance of the independence movement. Built, it is presumed, in the early-to-mid 19th century, the house has an open-口-shaped layout in which the arrangement of buildings and the plan and elevation of the inner quarters and the men's quarters are extremely rare for the northern Gyeongsangbuk-do region, giving it a distinctive architectural rarity value. More than 3,000 books, documents and other relics relating to the family history and to the independence movement are also well preserved.
