Dongnae Bu Government Office Chungsindang Hall
동래부 동헌 충신당 · 東萊府 東軒 忠信堂

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krIt was built in 1636, the 14th year of King Injo, by Jeong Yang-pil, the magistrate of Dongnae, and in 1711, the 37th year of King Sukjong, another Dongnae magistrate, Yi Jeong-sin, hung a plaque naming it Chungsindang, after which it served as the local government hall (dongheon) until the end of the Joseon period. During the Japanese colonial period it was used as the office building of Dongnae County, and when Dongnae County was incorporated into Yangsan County in 1973, it served as the Dongnae branch of the Yangsan County health centre. In 1977 Busan Metropolitan City purchased the building, dismantled and restored everything above the foundation stones, and it has been preserved in this form ever since. This building was where the magistrate of Dongnae carried out administrative affairs, comparable to the office of today's Mayor of Busan. The roof is a hipped-and-gabled (paljak) roof, the eaves are double eaves (gyeopcheoma), and the ceiling is an exposed-rafter (yeondeung) ceiling. Chungsindang originally had rooms on either side with a wooden floor (maru) in the centre, but as it was used as the Dongnae county office building during the Japanese colonial period, the walls, floor plan, ceiling and flooring were repeatedly replaced and repaired, causing it to lose much of its original appearance; today the rooms have all disappeared and been replaced by wooden flooring. On 8 May 2013 the designated name was changed from Dongbu Dongheon to Dongnae Bu Government Office Chungsindang Hall.
