Dadaejin Government Office
다대진동헌 · 多大鎭 東軒

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThe dongheon was the building within a Joseon-period local government office where the cheomsa (garrison commander) attended to administrative affairs; it was also known by such names as asa, guna, hyeona, or sisacheong. It is the sole surviving architectural structure among the government buildings that once stood within Dadaejinseong (Dadaejin Garrison Fortress), and now stands within Morundae, at 73 Morundae 1-gil, Saha District, Busan (Mountain 144, Dadae-dong). It originally stood in the lower section of the government compound and was known as Suhogak. After the Dadaejin garrison was abolished, the building was left as unused public property, then served as a school building for the Dadaepo Silyong School, and later was repurposed as a building of Dadae Elementary School. During levelling works on the playground of Dadae Elementary School in 1970, it was relocated and restored to its present site; at that time, school officials mistakenly recorded the building as a guest house (gaeksa), and when it was designated a Busan Metropolitan City Tangible Cultural Heritage (26 June 1972), it was registered under the name Dadaepo Gaeksa (Dadaepo Guest House). Following deliberation by the Busan National Heritage Committee in July 2020, the name was changed to Dadaejin Dongheon (29 July 2020). The Dadaejin Dongheon has five bays across the front and two bays in depth; the outermost bay on each side is a heated ondol room, while the middle three bays are presumed to have formed a daecheong hall floored with umulmaru (well-pattern wooden flooring).
