Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis stupa was discovered on the site of Cheongsongsa Temple. It stands about 100 m from the Ulju Cheongsongsa Temple Site Three-Storey Stone Pagoda (Treasure No. 382). Fragments of stupas are scattered in the surrounding area, and the area came to be known as 'Budogol' (Stupa Valley). There are three stupas in all, each in the stone-bell shape typical of the Joseon period. A stupa is a stone monument built to enshrine the relics of eminent monks. The stupa on the right is 3 m high, its base stone, foundation stone, lotus pedestal and body stone assembled in sequence. On the foundation stone, a guardian deity figure (Inwang) is carved in relief on the north and south faces, and a lotus pattern on the east and west faces. Sanskrit letters are carved at the bottom of the body stone, and a lotus bud at the top. The stupa in the middle is 2.2 m high, with a lotus pattern carved in relief on all four faces of the foundation stone. The body stone bears the inscription 'Seoeungdang Jinheup-daesa', with a cloud pattern carved below. The stupa on the left, 1.2 m high, consists only of the body stone, without a foundation stone.
