Daegu Bususeong Fortress Stele
대구부수성비 · 大邱府修城碑

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis stele was erected by Kim Se-ho, who took up the post of governor of Gyeongsang Province during the reign of Emperor Gojong of Joseon, to commemorate his repair of the Daegu-bu town wall. The wall had originally been built by Min Eung-su, governor of Gyeongsang Province during the reign of King Yeongjo, to defend against foreign invasion, but it later fell into disrepair without being properly restored, until Kim Se-ho carried out the repairs. The stele consists of a stele body set on a square pedestal and topped with a roof stone. The inscription records details of the construction work and the rewarding of those who contributed to it. The stele was erected in 1869, the sixth year of Emperor Gojong's reign; Governor Kim Se-ho composed the inscription himself, and Choe Seok-ro, who had been in charge of the construction works, wrote the calligraphy. When the Daegu-bu town wall was demolished in 1906, the tenth year of the Gwangmu era, the stele lost its original setting; it was moved to the grounds of the Daegu Confucian school in 1932, and to its present location in 1980 when the Yeongnamjeilgwan gate was reconstructed.
