This stele stands in the rear garden of Songgwangsa Temple and was erected to commemorate the temple's founding. It takes the form of a turtle-shaped base stone supporting the body of the stele, capped with a headstone carved with dragons. On the front of the stele are carved its title and inscription. Its main content records that National Preceptor Bojo of Goryeo, passing through Jongnamsan Mountain in Jeonju, chose the site for a temple and instructed his disciples to build it there, together with the lineage of masters and disciples running from National Preceptor Bojo down to Great Master Byeogam. On the back, quoting the words of the monk Seungmyeong, one of those who took part in building Songgwangsa, it records the circumstances of the temple's construction, along with the names of Great Master Byeogam's disciples, the donors, and the craftsmen involved at the time of its founding. The stele was erected in 1636, the fourteenth year of King Injo of Joseon; Sin Ik-seong composed the inscription, and Yi Gwang, Prince Uichang, the eighth son of King Seonjo, wrote the calligraphy.
