Former Ilbonje1 Bank, Incheon
인천 구 일본제1은행 · 仁川 舊 日本第一銀行
Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis stone building was constructed in 1899, the third year of the Gwangmu era under Emperor Gojong. It was designed by the Japanese architect Niinoie Takamasa, and with the exception of sand, gravel and lime, every building material was brought directly from Japan. The entrance was set at the centre in a semicircular curved form, topped by a small Renaissance-style dome, giving the building a symmetrical composition. The outer walls were built of dressed granite, and the ridge of the roof once carried ornamental windows, which no longer survive. The small towers flanking the central dome appear to be later additions. Overall, the building is a simplified rendering of the late Renaissance style.
