Former Incheon Post Office

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krIncheon Post Office was built on 10 December 1923, during the Japanese colonial period. It was a modern-style building constructed to handle postal services, and was grand in scale for an administrative building of that time. At the time of its construction it was named Incheon Post Bureau, and it was renamed Incheon Post Office in August 1949, after liberation. Large, column-like tower sections were erected on either side of the entrance, with a row of columns lacking capitals set between them. Administrative buildings of the period typically carried a dome-shaped tower structure on top, but this building omits such a feature, so that its plan and detailed exterior depart somewhat from the standard type. It was partly damaged during the Korean War, and restoration work — including replacing the slab roof with slate — was completed in 1957. The building is now occupied by the Incheon Jung-dong Post Office.
