Three-story Stone Pagoda in Toecheon-ri, Changnyeong
창녕 퇴천리 삼층석탑 · 昌寧 兎川里 三層石塔

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krHaving collapsed within a private house, this pagoda was dismantled and repaired in October 1969, then moved and re-erected in Manokjeong Park in Changnyeong. Fragments of roof tile and porcelain found around the village where it originally stood suggest that a temple once existed there, but no record survives of its name or history. The pagoda has a three-storey body set on a two-tiered base, a form typical of the Unified Silla period. Pillar shapes are carved on both the upper and lower tiers of the base and on the body stones of each storey. The eaves of the roof stones are essentially horizontal but curve up slightly at the four corners, and the underside of each carries four tiers of supports. It is thought to have been built in the late Unified Silla period, and although part of the base is somewhat damaged, it provides valuable evidence for tracing the development of Unified Silla stone pagodas.
