This is the tomb and shrine of Grand Prince Yangnyeong (1394–1462), eldest son of King Taejong of Joseon and eldest brother of King Sejong. The shrine was built in 1675, the first year of King Sukjong's reign, by royal command; originally standing outside Sungnyemun Gate, it was moved to its present site in 1912. The shrine is named Jideok, meaning "one whose character has reached the height of virtue," a name said to have been personally given by King Sejo. Enshrined within are the memorial tablets of Grand Prince Yangnyeong and his wife of the Gwangsan Kim clan, together with a rubbing of the Sungnyemun Gate signboard written in the prince's own hand, a Record of Jideoksa composed by King Jeongjo, and another Record of Jideoksa composed by Heo Mok. The prince's tomb lies behind the shrine.
